VPAP.org Homepage Redesign
Background
The Old Homepage
VPAP.org is a big, complex website. To political junkies, it’s a treasure trove of information on Virginia politics. But, to the average user, the website can be overwhelming. One of the big goals with the redesign was to create a more inviting homepage that made VPAP’s many resources more discoverable.
New Homepage
The new homepage utilizes full-bleed rows of content, with sections organized in order of importance. At the top is the re-styled information lookup tool, which is the best entry point for newcomers to the site.
A row of icons was added to highlight more of VPAP's resources. In the old design, these items were lost in the minimal navigation links.
Sections were also added for calls to Subscribe and Donate. These are major marketing goals of the organization, and needed visual prominence on the homepage.
I also designed several new landing pages for different sections of the site. Once a user dives in deeper from the homepage, these pages give the average person a general overview of the information they can find within that section.
